I had a little printing press, which I received on my twelfth birthday as a gift from our neighbors, the University press. When I was fifteen, sixteen, I began making stuff for friends. I edited the school magazine and a boy scouts’ magazine, both of which I also designed, although I didn’t know what graphic design was. I became the guy that the neighbors came to asking for a business card or letterhead. That’s how I learned how to design.Erik Spiekermann.
