Mission Gothic Thin, designed by James T. Edmondson and Trevor Baum, released by Lost Type.

The forms are inspired mainly by antique signage in San Francisco’s Mission District, which were heavily influenced by signpainting manuals from the early to mid 1900s. The shapes evoke a sense of nostalgia, without being cartoony or overtly retro in feel.

Mission Gothic is a low contrast sans serif, and is built mostly for display text. While Mission Gothic can be set small, it is intended for sizes larger than fourteen point, in order to let the nuances of this typeface shine.

Basetica Medium, by Matthieu Cortat of Nonpareille.

Basetica has been designed for the project ‹Open Switzerland›. BaseGVA wanted to show their commitment to the ‹Swiss› graphic design, with all its quality of precision and rigour. And at the same time represent Switzerland far from its common stereotypes. So, Basetica wants to be an ‹Helvetica for 2013›, open minded, neat and modern. Sometimes a bit raw, but always clean and discrete, Basetica ironically recalls the ‹Swiss International Style› of the 50s and 60s.via Open Switzerland.
